IEA Wind TCP invites DARES Group to share cyber resilience insights in wind energy systems

From Detection to Mitigation: DARES Contributions Spotlighted at IEA Wind TEM

Dr. Hamed Badihi, head of the DARES group at Tampere University, was an invited speaker at the IEA Wind Topical Expert Meeting (TEM) #116 on Cybersecurity for Wind Energy Systems, held on October 14, 2025. The event brought together global experts to identify key cybersecurity priorities and challenges in the wind energy sector.

In his invited lecture titled “Towards Resilient Wind Turbine Systems: Detection, Identification, and Mitigation of Cyber Attacks,” Dr. Badihi addressed the rising threat of coordinated and stealthy cyber intrusions targeting offshore wind infrastructure. His presentation explored hybrid machine learning techniques for intrusion detection and identification, along with advanced attack-resilient control strategies that ensure dependable turbine operation under adversarial conditions.

Drawing from recent DARES-led research, Dr. Badihi highlighted the importance of integrating anomaly-based detection, control reconfiguration, and resilience-by-design in next-generation wind energy systems.

The IEA Wind TEM series is a premier platform for shaping global research and policy directions, and this invitation underscores DARES’ growing contribution to securing the future of intelligent and sustainable energy systems.
