EduLit is going to have a rich year of research! Our research group is involved in the CRITICAL project, which began at the end of last year. The project examines children’s and adolescents’ critical reading skills in the era of the Internet. This academic year, university lecturers Reijo Kupiainen and Pirjo Kulju will work full-time on the project. Reijo examines how upper secondary school students interpret and evaluate short media messages. Pirjo, in turn, develops methods targeting to support pre-service teachers’ pedagogies that help them to promote their students’ critical reading.
Other exciting news is that EduLit will also get a new member! Laura Kanniainen will start in September as a researcher at the CRITICAL project. In the autumn, she will study critical reading skills among 10- to17-year-old students and the factors promoting the development of critical reading.
The other EduLit members involved in the CRITICAL project are Carita Kiili (WP leader), Marita Mäkinen (pre-service teachers’ critical online reading skills), and Riikka Anttonen (the role of self-efficacy in adolescents’ critical online reading).
