Factories with a high interoperability level require an extendable platform to reach the goal of zero defects. The EU-funded ZDMP project is combining state-of-the-art zero-defect technological approaches based on commercial-grade or open-source software, with built-in software for any gaps, and with an open development approach and app store. In this context, ZDMP will allow end-users to connect their systems (i.e., shopfloor and ERP Systems) to benefit from the features of the platform. These benefits include products and production quality assurance amongst others. The platform will be piloted in the automotive, machine tool, electronics, and construction sectors.

Objectives

    1. To guarantee the success of the project objectives, related to management and innovation, are met by ensuring the successful completion of the project on-resource, on quality, and on time.
    2. To reassert the project vision and user scenarios, benchmarking it and aligning it with existing zero-defects reference models and technologies as well as providing the overall requirements, KPIs, and a trust policy framework depicting the envisioned ZDMP.
    3. To ensure that the project results will be effectively exploited in the market.
    4. To provide ZDMPs architecture, specification suite, mock-ups, and standardization approach
      .
    5. To deliver the core Industrial IoT/ Network support of data acquisition, interoperability, and AI/analytics supported by orchestration, monitoring, and autonomous computing.
    6. To provide the user/developer with a runtime platform including environment, marketplace, 1st/3rd party service framework, developers engagement framework, and internal integration support.
    7. To ensure outstanding process quality, through equipment, resource, and energy efficiency, by deploying novel AI-based solutions.
    8. To ensure the quality of the product along the value chain of the manufacturing process by deploying advanced modelling, detection, inspection, and predictive techniques.
    9. To act as the experimental base for the ZDMP Platform targeting Traditional Sector specific use cases: Automotive & Machine Tools.
    10. To act as the experimental base for the ZDMP Platform targeting Extended Sector specific use cases: Construction & Electronics.
    11. To provide cross-domain validation of ZDMP which will assert the development of the project solution and validate ZDMP outcomes.
    12. To develop the ZDMP ecosystem for fostering manufacturing excellence through cascade funding to support SMEs in piloting/developing prototype applications.
    13. To disseminate and provide outreach of the project activity and results to encourage the spread of ZDMP results.

Impact:

  • Demonstrating how different techniques can be combined and integrated into a single platform, by providing the services needed to drastically reduce the appearance of defects along the value chain of the manufacturing process.
  • Creating a whole ecosystem around the ZDMP platform, to engage additional stakeholders, establishing links with existing initiatives and finding synergies with them, and attracting end users.
  • Providing companies in the manufacturing sector with a set of advanced and non-existing services aimed to attain a zero-defect scenario in their processes.
  • Creating a complete ecosystem around the ZDMP Platform and actively contributing towards reproducing the main features of the ZDMP ecosystem in other similar industrial platforms.
  • The outcomes from the ZDMP project will help European platform providers to achieve a more relevant position in the market. In addition to the considerations about the more relevant existing platforms and technologies, a thorough study of the market and identification of business opportunities will be valuable for other European platform providers.

Role of FAST-Lab.

  • Coordination of the experimentation, reference implementation and cross-domain and validation work package.
  • Experimentation facility establishment and operation (to facilitate the testing and validation of ZDMP components and applications by partners and Open call participants).
  • Reference implementation establishment and support.
  • Support the development of the ZDMP Application Builder component (aka studio).
  • Support the development of the ZDMP Distributed Computing component.
  • Support the development of the ZDMP Autonomous Computing component.
