The topic of the workshop was to discuss the possibilities and bottlenecks in applying machine learning methods to health data at Tampere University.

It was held as a hybrid meeting on May 4th 2022 at 10-12 in Arvo building and on Zoom.

Opening: The workshop was opened by Profs. Matti Nykter (bioinformatics) and Pekka Ruusuvuori (bioimage informatics), who gave introductions to machine learning approaches and presented examples of previous studies, where machine learning had successfully been used to make advances in broad areas of health research. Focus was in applications and practical challenges in relation to data.

Discussion: In the subsequent discussion, we wished participants could bring up topics in their research where they are applying or would like to apply machine learning. We wished to identify actions through which the health data science program could support the utilization of a machine learning approach in research.
