Research on higher education - shared seminar with four research groups

Higher education seminar 25.2.2021

Four research groups operating at Tampere University met online in a seminar on higher education research.

Doctoral researchers, post docs and senior researchers from Edu-Know, HEG, HET and PGL had a shared seminar on Thursday evening, 25 February 2021. Four presentations based on ongoing studies discussed the topical issues in higher education. Doctoral researcher Yulia Shumilova (HEG) started the session with a talk about factors affecting graduate employability, from the perspective of international students. Students’ perceptions were in focus also in a study by doctoral researcher Susanna Hartikainen (PGL). She talked about teaching-related emotions and their effects on learning. Teachers in higher education were discussed in a talk by doctoral researcher Ksenia Sharapova (HET). Her review article focuses on teacher leadership in higher education. The last talk was given by postdoctoral researcher Anna Medvedeva (Edu-Know) with the topic of language and power in postcolonial internationalized university. Johanna Annala and Vesa Korhonen (HET) arranged the joint seminar and chaired the session.

The seminar gathered 32 academics with research interest on studies in higher education. The discussions raised interesting new perspectives to researching higher education so it was agreed to continue this type of inspiring border crossing discussions and knowledge-sharing in the future.
