MTT researcher Nick Haswell got the Best Overall Conference Presentation Award for his paper entitled Towards a third space for inclusive education through decolonising a culturally-responsive pedagogies: A position paper.  The paper is part of the EU-funded project Merging Refugee-Educators Competencies and Skills (EMERGEnCeS).

Here are Nick’s thoughts just after the conference:

In the last days of July, I had the great opportunity to present at the 3rd World Conference on Children and Youth 2021, held virtually on the 29.-30.8.2021 and organized by the International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM) and co-hosted by the International Society for Research on Children and Youth (ISRCY) and the Faculty of Primary and Pre-School Education, Eö
tvös Loránd University (ELTE), Hungary. The paper I presented, entitled “Towards a Third Space for Inclusive Education through Decolonising and Culturally
Responsive Pedagogies: A Position Paper” was co-written by Maija Yli-Jokipii and others as part of the EU funded Erasmus + project: EMERgenCeS: Merging Refugee-Educators Competencies and Skills (KA204-060226). The paper’s purpose was to present the theoretical approach this project used in its work, to address educational exclusion through policy change and pedagogical support for teachers with a refugee background. As a first-time presenter the experience was very rewarding, and I enjoyed the chance to connect with other researchers working in this field. Happily, and very much unexpectedly, my presentation was selected as one of the overall best presentations of the conference.

Congratulations Nick and the rest of the team!
