It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Professor Nikolai Tkachenko, Professor of Physical Chemistry and Group leader of Photonics compounds and Nanomaterials following a sudden illness on 25 April 2024.
Nikolai built a long and successful academic career at Tampere University of Technology and later Tampere University. He was known around the globe as a leading authority in the field of ultrafast spectroscopy with an extensive publication record and a broad international collaboration network.
Nikolai has left a long-lasting mark on the research and teaching of chemistry at Tampere University that we continue to cherish in the years to come. We thank him for the past years, and warmly remember the moments we spent together both at work and during leisure.
We lost a great scientist, colleague, mentor, and friend. He will be deeply missed, and our warmest condolences go out to his family and friends.
