Welcome Dr Khaldoon Nasser!
Hello. My name is Khaldoon, a new Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Tampere University. I have just joined the Photonics Glasses Group to work on the WhiFib Project (funded by Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation, 2024-2025) under the guidance of Prof Laeticia Petit. WhiFib will be carried out at Tampere University in collaboration with the University of Eastern Finland (Finland) and Clemson University (USA). We are planning to develop a novel, inexpensive, and lightweight white light source. It will be based on glass-based composite material that contains Ce:YAG nanocrystals and can be drawn into a fiber. Our Fibers may replace the classical LEDs and the expensive supercontinuum lasers used in imaging and microscopy. WhiFib also holds promise for applications in LiFi wireless communication technology that utilizes visible light to transmit data at high speeds. Well, imagine you use a simple light source to light up your room and share the internet! Pretty cool, huh?
