It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the death of one of the members of RS HUB, Professor Jean-Sébastien Guy (1975-2022), who worked at the Department of Sociology & Social Anthropology at Dalhousie University in Canada. Professor Guy passed away in 16 November. In his work, he challenged and unsettled several sociological notions usually taken for granted, such as the conceptual pair of structure and agency, and argued for an altogether different kind of social theory. This line of thinking is developed to the fullest in his major contribution Theory Beyond Structure and Agency (Palgrave, 2019). As a specialist in Luhmann’s social systems theory, he also explored the relational aspects of Luhmann’s work and its contribution to relational thinking in a fascinating manner. Jean-Sebastien’s wit, kindness, warmth, and humor will be terribly missed. Our thoughts are with Jean-Sébastien’s family and loved ones.
