Stanford University’s listing is based on the number of citations obtained from the Scopus database and lists the 2% of researchers whose works have received the most citations. There are almost 200,000 people on the list, which is 2% of the world’s at least 9 million researchers. The listing is normalised by disciplines, which enables a comparison of representatives of very different disciplines.
