Research training

Besides conducting scientific research, the Global Health Group offers researcher training to undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students working on their academic theses at the Tampere University.

Doctoral Students | Master’s Students | Undergraduate Students | Completed Theses and Dissertations

Doctoral Students

Individuals interested in joining Global Health Group as a PhD student should contact the group. Potential applicants should note that, except some separate calls, Tampere University neither charges tuition fees nor offers any study scholarships for newly enrolled PhD students. Thus, the students will need to cover themselves both their personal costs, including travel and accommodation, as well as those expenses related to their possible thesis and research.

PhD studies at the Global Health Group are research based, which means that the majority of the work will be done around the students’ own research project. To obtain the PhD degree, the students are typically required to publish three scientific articles and a summary thesis from their research work. Additionally, the studies will include a minimum of 40 ECTS of coursework.

Each student’s program is tailored individually, through discussions between the student, the supervisor and the school’s committee for PhD studies. The students will be formally registered in the Doctoral Programme in Medicine, Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering.

Master’s Students

In the Finnish educational system, all master’s students conduct a scientific research project and publish a master’s thesis towards the end of their studies. Global Health Group offers supervision and a possibility to carry out a global health related thesis project to selected students who are registered at Tampere University or other universities. Students who are interested in such an arrangement should contact the Global Health Group for further discussions.

Global Health Group doesn’t offer Master’s Degree Program but there is a related Master’s Degree Program in Public and Global Health, offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Tampere University.
