Discussion Event on October 20: Ideologies in Russia

You are cordially invited to an open international seminar "Ideologies in Russia" at Tampere University on Tuesday 20 October.

The event will mark the publication of a forthcoming book in Finnish, Aatteiden Venäjä: ideoiden ja aktivismin historiaa (Ideologies in Russia: The History of Ideas and Activism), edited by Sanna Turoma, Vesa Oittinen, and Mika Perkiömäki.

The new book, to be published by Gaudeamus, is the most comprehensive Finnish-language presentation of ideologies in Russia to date. It opens up new perspectives on the history of Russian political and societal thought by looking at the likes of anarchism, fascism, nationalism, and imperalism. In their analyses, the authors challenge the oft-repeated mantra of the special nature of Russia.

The event Ideologies in Russia at Tampere University on Tuesday 20 October features a rich line-up of experts talking about themes related to the book. The keynote speaker Mark Galeotti is Honorary Professor at the University College London in the UK and the author of several books on Russia, among them two translated into Finnish:

  • Voima ja valta: Venäjän mafia Kremlin suojeluksessa (Docendo, 2019)
