On Friday 27 January, the FEMCORUS project, led by TaRC’s Saara Ratilainen, and University College London, School of Slavonic and East European Studies, organise a half-day online seminar Digital Transformations of Feminisms in Russia and Eastern Europe.
The event has been re-scheduled from Friday 25 November 2022.
The seminar discusses the current state and prospects of feminisms from the vantage point of digital communication technologies. The event addresses the rapid transformation of the legislative and political context in which Russian and Eastern European feminist and queer activists, as well as artists and journalists, use digital platforms to promote their agenda, seek support and develop transnational networks of solidarity.
The seminar questions the role of digital dis/connectivity for the feminist NGOs and trans/national networks and scrutinizes how online media might be able to popularize the feminist agenda.
The seminar presentations will reflect on the risks and advantages associated with the social media platforms when creating and maintaining transgressive grassroots movements aiming at decolonization of the post-socialist imperial spaces through anti-racist, queer feminist, and anti-war resistance networks.
The seminar will be organized online on Zoom on Friday 27 January, 2.00 to 5.00pm Helsinki time (EET, GMT+2). The programme is as follows:
