Tampere University student, would you like to broaden your knowledge about Russia, East Central Europe, and Central Asia, and develop your expertise in diverse questions related to the area? Then consider courses from the broad Russian and Eurasian Studies module!

Russian and Eurasian Studies is a multidisciplinary module that covers Russian history, culture, media, and politics as well as the study of cultural, social and political phenomena in East Central Europe and Central Asia.

The aim is to explore Russia and Eastern Europe as well as societies and cultures in the Eurasian region in the global context.

The module is optional and available to all students of Tampere University and ExpREES (nationwide network of expert studies coordinated at the University of Helsinki).

Participation does not require knowledge of the Russian language or other languages in the region. The language of tuition is English. Teachers are experts in Russian and Eurasian studies from Finland and other countries.

The module currently includes eight courses (each worth 5 ECTS) that are divided under three main themes: culture and history, society and politics, and media and politics. For a list of the courses available and their teaching schedules, see the module page.

The courses can be studied in any order, and you can sign up for each course in the Sisu system. If you want to complete the 20 ECTS module, you should choose four of the courses.

For more information on the module, see the module introduction page. You can also contact Professor Sanna Turoma. For the individual courses, please consult the responsible teachers.
