Online Talk on December 10: Trust in Media in Exile

This year's final Online Talk on Tuesday 10 December focuses on trust in media in exile with Ekaterina Grishaeva.

It is time for the final Online Talk on Eurasian Media in 2024!

This year’s final session of the collaborative initiative between TaRC and the Russian Media Lab (University of Helsinki) delves into questions of trust, with Ekaterina Grishaeva (Södertörn University, Sweden) presenting early results of her research project Trust on Media in Exile: Perception of Oppositional Media in Russia on Tuesday 10 December.

Talk info:

After February 2022, many oppositional media outlets fled Russia due to changes in legislation and enhanced political pressure. In some cases, working from exile altered journalistic analysis by enhancing political assessment of events back in Russia.

A more pronounced bias in reporting can impact audiences’ perception of oppositional media, particularly trust in them. The presentation will discuss the arguments of (dis)trust in oppositional media as well as the relation between (dis)trust, political engagement, and media habits.

Speaker info:

Ekaterina Grishaeva, PhD, is a researcher at the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES), Södertörn University. Grishaeva’s research is focused on media perception, and the political and societal effects of digital media use.
