TaRC member Dr Tatu Laukkanen has participated in the making of a new online course, Introduction to Chinese Popular Culture, with China experts working around Europe.

One of Dr Laukkanen’s contributions to the course, which opens in early February, is a lecture on the Fifth and Sixth Generations of Chinese filmmakers. You can already check out his lecture free of charge here.

Dr Laukkanen’s work is part of a bigger EU-funded project ReConnect China. The course Introduction to Chinese Popular Culture is one of four online courses offered within this Horizon Europe project which brings together 15 partners from 12 EU Member States.

The ReConnect China project aims to find out in which domains EU collaboration with China is desirable, possible, or impossible, and it focuses on the following four specific fields: science and technology, economy and trade, domestic governance, and foreign policy.

The project shares its research outcomes with youth and the wider society through four introductory Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). On these courses, China experts explore four topics related to contemporary China: politics and society, EU-China relations, economy, and popular culture.

All the courses are available until the end of 2026. Whether you are a student, professional, or just want to learn more about China, these courses are open to everyone.

You can enroll for these MOOC courses through the links below.

Structured around five to six thematic modules, each course incorporates diverse learning materials such as short video lectures, slide decks, podcasts and digital stories. The learning experience is enhanced with versatile, automatically-graded assignments, concluding each thematic module with a multiple-choice exam.

Each course carries a value of 3 ECTS. After completing the course, students will receive a digitally verifiable course certificate.

TaRC congratulates Dr Laukkanen on his participation in the project and encourages everyone to take a look at (some of) the courses!
