Background
TASE focus on the practical aspects of software engineering with concrete research topics. The current (November 2023) research projects work on the following areas.
- Software architectures for IoT, edge and cloud: how to distribute intelligence (both traditional and machine learning).
- Software solutions for smart energy systems, especially electrification of energy-intensive system. Here we collaborate with other research groups – especially researchers working on electrical engineering.
- Software and system architectures for industrial informatics and industrial internet applications.
- AI-assisted software development, how the efficiency of software production can be improved with AI technologies like large language models.
- Computer science education research, engineering education, educational tools.
The mission of the group is to develop efficient ways to produce better quality software in a predictable and economically sustainable way.
The educational branch develops methods, materials and tools for programming and software education, including online education. The work is targeted on higher-level education level but contributes even on the primary and secondary school level, too.
Goal
As the mission states, the main goal of the group is to develop efficient ways to produce better quality software in a predictable and economically sustainable way. With close collaboration with local industry, we ensure that research has practical value and teaching given by the research group is industry-relevant.
In addition to scientific research and other contribution to the scientific community, the group has large teaching responsibilities and thus wants to bring the research results to teaching in a rapid phase.
