MSc Dario Amoroso d’Aragona will publicly defend his doctoral dissertation, Microservices Logical Coupling: Measurement, Evolution, and Organizational Implications, at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences, Tampere University, on 24 July 2026.
In his dissertation, Amoroso d’Aragona examined how microservices in open-source software systems become connected through repeated code changes and developer work across multiple services. His research shows that these hidden dependencies are common, tend to increase over time, and are shaped not only by software architecture but also by the way developers and teams organize their work.
The findings demonstrate that adopting a microservices architecture does not automatically ensure independent software development. The research provides practical insights that can help software architects, developers, and project maintainers identify hidden dependencies earlier, improve coordination, and develop more maintainable software systems.
