About

The TechPhilo Research Group at Tampere University focuses on philosophical questions raised by recent developments in technology, e.g. digitalization, robotics, artificial intelligence, and other related fields.

Relying on philosophical approaches and argumentation the group contributes to philosophy in a way that is relevant to society and its ecologically sustainable future in a global context. Drawing on multiple philosophical approaches including phenomenology, feminist philosophy, social epistemology, social ontology, political philosophy, critical theory, posthumanism, and moral philosophy, the TechPhilo group’s research topics include various issues, such as accountability, fairness, disinformation, algorithmic governance, responsible robotics, datafication, automated decision-making, sustainability, and democracy. In addition, the TechPhilo members collaborate with many other disciplines, e.g. social sciences, health sciences, education, political science, engineering, and with sectors outside university such as government, companies, public sector, NGO, and fields of art.
