We are pleased to welcome Dr Milad Malekzadeh to the Urban Physics Research Group at Tampere University.
Milad is a quantitative geographer whose research focuses on the intersections of human mobility, urban environments, well-being, and artificial intelligence (AI). His work combines geographical information science (GIScience), spatial big data, and AI to better understand how people move through, perceive, and experience cities.
Before joining Tampere University, Milad worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Digital Geography Lab, University of Helsinki. He completed his PhD in Geography and Environment at Western University, Canada. His research has explored urban mobility patterns, the relationship between travel environments and well-being, perceptions of urban attractiveness, and the potential of AI to support urban planning and decision-making.
At Urban Physics, Milad brings expertise in spatial data science, GeoAI, and human mobility analysis, complementing the group’s existing research on environmental exposure, urban sustainability, and population health. His interdisciplinary perspective will help connect the physical characteristics of urban environments with how people use and experience urban spaces.
Alongside his research, Milad will contribute to teaching, student supervision, and research development in sustainable urban development and spatial data science.
We warmly welcome Milad to the team!
