A micro forest, is a small, densely planted area of trees, usually located in the middle of the built urban environment. The size of a micro forest is about the size of a tennis court. One of Finland’s first micro-forests was planted in the Hervantajärvi neighbourhood in the summer of 2025, and it bears the name Hakkisenpuistikko.
Researchers Elina Sirén and Mari-Sohvi Miettinen from the Faculty of Built Environment at the University of Tampere are surveying people’s thoughts on the Hakkisenpuistikko micro forest. The point of comparison is the Hervantajärvi forest with its recreational areas and nature reserve. With the help of this study, we will investigate how micro forests fit into Finnish urban planning and forest relationships.
We invite you to participate in an anonymous survey. The survey is open until 31.10.2025. Answering the survey takes about 5–10 minutes. Answer the survey from this link.
