Arts for Empowerment – Improving the Service Design Skills Between Arts and Health Care
Art-based methods can be used for many things besides creating traditional performances and art pieces. Different art forms such as theatre, film, fine arts, dance, music and photography can be applied for health care, schools, communities, etc.
Applied arts can be used for solving all sorts of problems. It can be used for developing ones social skills, increasing self-esteem and giving faith in the future.
Everybody can participate. Working together can be empowering and new thoughts and models might emerge.
As a co-operation between the Centre for Practise as Research in Theatre at the University of Tampere and Laurea University of Applied Sciences, Arts for Empowerment project seeks to enhance the growth of social innovations, support the use of applied arts within the health care sector and increase the understanding of the impacts of creativity, culture and the arts on health and well-being through:
- Developing new and innovative applied arts services for health care
- Improving the Service Design skills of the applied arts professionals
- Sharing information between the arts sector and the health care sector in Finland
- Supporting interaction between the professionals working in the field
Arts for Empowerment project is funded by Luova Suomi – Creative Industries Finland development programme (supported by the European Social Fund) in collaboration with the regional Luova Tampere creative economy development programme. The project is also funded by Laurea University of Applied Sciences and the city of Vantaa.
The project started in the middle of 2010 and it will last until the end of 2012.
