CYCLING AS POLITICAL ARGUMENTATION: AGENCY IN CITY TRAFFIC.

Despite traffic design and regulations in place, it often remains unclear how to cycle without breaking the rules. Unwritten normative conventions inform the choices the moving agent makes. Situations and circumstances vary, which often leads to confusion. My research focus is on cycling because of its conflicting position in-between other modes of mobilities, for example, driving a car.

My art-based research contributes to increased knowledge of cycling practices and everyday tactics. This is important, because our shared urban environment needs to be developed with the people living there. Cycling practices are rich of performative knowledge, which has yet unknown potential for more inclusive urban planning. Employing artistic methods to investigate the diversity of cycling practices, my work participates in the discussion of more equal distribution of public space.
