Arts in Care and Prison

An Ethnographic Study on Cultural Project Implementations in Institutional Environments

This PhD Research Project (2015–2019) engages with the issues of participation, cultural accessibility, inclusion, exclusion, cultural projects and practices in institutions. I examine the project implementations and action in the light of the culture policy and discussions of cultural accessibility. The aim of the study is to produce information about what happens at the grass roots -level when two functionally different institutions – cultural field and care institutions and different objectives meet.

Cases are
1) Circus workshop in closed prison
2) Cooking club for men in residential care home and
3) Live streamed concerts in care centers, prison and mental hospital.
