The Tampere University Research Centre for Communication Sciences (Taru) is a multidisciplinary and global research center focused on the crossroads of society, technology, and culture. Boundaries of Performing
Our performing arts research group unites researchers and postgraduate students to explore artistic research, art research, artist pedagogical research, and applied research. We critically examine and redefine stage performance boundaries, investigating various artistic forms and their global impact. Our research aims to push the limits of performance practices and innovate within the performing arts field.

We study interpersonal interaction among people in different contexts and from various perspectives. Our research is connected to society, technology, and health. In addition to technology-mediated and health-promoting interactions, our research group is interested in social communication, particularly in politics and workplace communication.

DILEWO - Digitality and media in learning, work and participation
The DILEWO research group focuses on the digitalizing and mediatizing society, offering insights into the evolving digital landscape in work, education, and civic life. As an interdisciplinary team, we evaluate how digitalization and media influence socio-technical environments and individual navigation through these changes, providing valuable research-based findings on adapting to digital and media challenges.

Game Research Lab
We study games, players, gaming, and game production. Our research combines perspectives from the humanities, social sciences, and art studies. We examine games and gaming as forms of culture and self-expression, performances and interactions, and products and services. Additionally, we provide game research education at the University of Tampere.

InfUSE is a group of researchers and post-graduate students in Information Interaction and Use. We study all aspects of information searching, information use in various contexts, interactive information retrieval, and information interaction. We are interested in how the current information environment and its changes augment human behavior and performance.

RIME comprises researchers and postgraduate students in Information and Media Practices. RIME focuses on practices by which individuals, teams, and organizations process information during its life cycle. The main activities constitutive of such practices include producing, seeking, using, sharing, managing, and organizing information.
