Cytokine biology research group
Cytokines regulate immune responses via complex positive and negative feedback loops. We study the mechanisms by which cytokines regulate immune cell functions particularly in allergic (type2) inflammation.
Our main interests include studying biology of Interleukin(IL)-4, its signaling and receptor functions. We are also interested in “new” type2 immune response-related cytokines, IL-25, IL-33 and Thymic Stromal Lymphopoietin (TSLP) and their role in regulating and sustaining type2-related inflammation.
Our study is funded by; Academy of Finland, Finnish Medical Foundation, Sigrid Juselius Foundation, Tampere Tuberculosis Foundation, Competitive State Research Financing of the Expert Responsibility area of Tampere University Hospital/Fimlab Laboratories and Tampere Children’s Hospital Support Association (Tampereen Lastenklinkan tuki ry).
