This is a guest blog post from one of DigiSus seed funded projects from 2024, “Digitalisation for All” by Bloom Finland.

Reflecting on these past few months, the Bloom in Digitalisation project stands as a testament to the remarkable progress made in digitalisation initiatives. This transformative project was marked by three significant workshops and five Bloom Buddy Circle sessions, bringing together participants from diverse backgrounds, both local and international. Designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and community needs, the Bloom in Digitalisation initiative aimed to educate Tampere citizens about digitalisation and its practical applications.

Key Themes and Topics Explored

Over the course of five months, the project addressed several impactful topics, including:

  • Leveraging Digital Tools and AI to enhance career opportunities for students and job seekers.
  • Introducing Digital Tools for Sustainable Living through the Smart Start Tampere workshop.
  • Exploring the Ethical Use of Digital Tools, particularly in academic settings.
  • Investigating cutting-edge areas such as the creation of data-driven cities and the potential of digital twins in urban planning.

Tampere’s Leadership in Digitalisation

The City of Tampere provided forward-thinking digital initiatives that enriched the workshops and served as real-world examples. These initiatives demonstrated how data-driven approaches can transform urban environments to be more inclusive, efficient, and sustainable, positioning Tampere as a leader in digital innovation.

Community Engagement and Impact

The Bloom Buddy Circles served as a platform for meaningful discussions on:

  • Utilising digital tools to advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
  • Improving reporting practices and empowering local entrepreneurs.
  • Promoting innovation, reducing waste, and enhancing material lifecycles.

These activities contributed to fostering a more resilient community that integrates digital tools to address local and global challenges.

Collaborative Efforts and Support

The success of the project was supported by various organisations and institutions, including the City of Tampere, International House Tampere, TAMK teachers, and TRIBE Tampere. Additionally, the DigiSus platform at Tampere University provided essential backing, offering expertise and resources to ensure the initiative’s impact.

Outcomes and Future Directions

The Bloom in Digitalisation project effectively highlighted the importance of digitalisation and its role in creating sustainable, innovative, and inclusive communities. By addressing real-world challenges and showcasing practical applications, the project has laid a strong foundation for continued growth in the field of digital transformation.

As the initiative concludes, the knowledge shared and connections formed during these sessions will continue to influence ongoing efforts in digitalisation, shaping the future of Tampere and beyond.
