A strong EduKnow presence at ECER2017 in Copenhagen

A number of EduKnow members attended and presented in the European Conference on Educational Research, ECER 2017, in Copenhagen in August 2017.

Jaakko Kauko, Vera G. Centeno, and Helena Hinke Dobrochinski Candido presenteid their co-authored paper “Quality policies reshaping Brazilian education”, with the aim of analysing the implementation of large-scale assessments in Brazil on different levels of operation. The paper also provides a theoretical discussion to broaden the scope outside Brazil.

Galina Gurova also presented her and Helena Candido's co-authored paper titled "Performance evaluation and opportunities for schools in Brazil, China and Russia".

In addition to chairing a number of sessions, Jaakko Kauko also participated in the symposium organised by the JustED research network (The Nordic Centre of Excellence, Justice through education in the Nordic Countries). Kauko and his colleagues presented their recently published work Dynamics in Education Politics. Understanding and explaining the Finnish case by Simola, Kauko, Varjo, Kalalahti, and Sahlstrom (Routledge 2017).

Overall, ECER2017 proved to be a memorable experience for the participants.

"It was my first time at ECER, and I was surprised by the great organization, high quality of the presentations, and good networking opportunities," says Helena Candido.

For Jaakko Kauko, the best part of ECER is the opportunity to meet colleagues and friends from around the world. Kauko also praises the conference setting: "The standards are high, but they just seem to get better year after year."
