The iDeaME network was founded on 20.11.2022 at the founding meeting held at the University of Tampere, where we were delighted to see all Finnish teacher education courses represented, either in attendance or through video greetings and materials. The aim of the network’s activities is to strengthen the national vision work for music education in 2030 from the perspectives of teacher education.
The network got its name from the idea of Muusai’s philosophy of the arts, in which music and the arts are viewed as holistic intellectual capital. Dea refers to the goddess, and ME can lead the thoughts both to us together and to Music Education. The name of the iDeaME network thus reminds us of the direction of ideas arising from art and its ”divine”, deep experiences, and of the inspirations, ideas produced by art and related to it.
This national network brings together music education researchers and teachers involved in the training of early childhood education and classroom teachers in all teacher educations. Cooperation with music subject teacher training and music pedagogy (UAS) education is important for the network: strong music education work carried out in general education also creates potential for music hobbies and orientation towards vocational education. So let’s create a positive spiral together, where music as part of general education and professional models of music serve each other!
