Mikko Valkama is the CoE Director, with specific research expertise in radio systems, signal processing, hardware-constrained communications and sensing systems, as well as RF convergence. He is the Head of Electrical Engineering Unit at Tampere University (TAU), Finland, and a member of TAU Academic Board. He has supervised 22 doctoral degree and coauthored 500+ referee publications. He has done pioneering research in full-duplex radio, HW-constrained radio systems and 5G positioning fields, and has received 6 IEEE best paper awards. His general research interests include radio communications, radio positioning and radio-based sensing.

Visa Koivunen (IEEE Fellow, EURASIP Fellow) is the CoE Vice-Director and currently Aalto Distinguished professor of Electrical Engineering, Department of Signal Processing and Acoustics, Aalto university, Finland. From 1992 to 1995 he was a visiting researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, and year 2007 and 2013-2014 he was visiting faculty at Princeton University. He held visiting fellow appointment at Nokia research center (2006-2012) and Princeton University since 2010. He held the Academy professor position in 2010-2014. His research interest include statistical, wireless communications, radar, multisensor signal processing, machine learning, cyber-physical systems and data science. He has published more than 430 papers in international scientific conferences and journals and holds 5 patents. His h-index is 53 (GS). He has co-authored 6 papers receiving best conference paper award and the two of his journal papers have been awarded the IEEE Signal Processing Society best paper award, year 2007 (with J. Eriksson) and for the second time in 2017 (with Zoubir et al). He was awarded the 2015 EURASIP Technical Achievement Award for fundamental contributions to statistical signal processing and its applications in wireless communications, radar and related fields. He was 2015-2016 IEEE Distinguished Lecturer in signal processing.

Mehdi Bennis is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Wireless Communications, University of Oulu, Finland, Academy of Finland Research Fellow and head of the intelligent connectivity and networks/systems group (ICON). Markku Juntti is a, Professor of Communications Engineering at University of Oulu, Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC), where he also serves as Head of CWC – Radio Technologies Research Unit. Dr. Juntti is also an Adjunct Professor at Rice University, Houston, Texas, USA. His research interests include signal processing for wireless networks as well as communication and information theory, algorithm design and related optimization. He received his Dr.Sc. (EE) degree from University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland in 1997. Dr. Juntti was with University of Oulu in 1992–98. In academic year 1994–95, he was a Visiting Scholar at Rice University, Houston, Texas. In 1999–2000, he was a Senior Specialist with Nokia Networks. International peer reviewed scientific publications: 135 journal articles, 11 book chapters, and 385 conference articles (out of which six invited). In addition, six (6) patents granted and seven (7) pending. H-index in Scopus 36, Web of Science 30 and Google Scholar 47. He has been the Principal Investigator in several EU and national projects such as DUPLO, RESCUE, TERRANOVA and ARIADNE. He is Fellow of IEEE.

Riku Jäntti is a Full Professor of Communications Engineering and the head of the department of Communications and Networking at Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering, Finland. He received his M.Sc (with distinction) in Electrical Engineering in 1997 and D.Sc (with distinction) in Automation and Systems Technology in 2001, both from Helsinki University of Technology (TKK). Prior to joining Aalto (formerly known as TKK) in August 2006, he was professor pro tem at the Department of Computer Science, University of Vaasa. Prof. Jäntti is a senior member of IEEE and associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology. He is also IEEE VTS Distinguished Lecturer (Class 2016). The research interests of Prof. Jäntti include machine type communications, cloud based radio access networks, backscatter communications, quantum communications, and radio frequency inference.

Simona Lohan

Simona Lohan is a Full Professor at the Electrical Engineering unit from TAU, a Visiting Professor at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, and the leader of TLTPOS research group on Signal processing for wireless positioning at TAU (www.cs.tut.fi/tlt/pos). She is a co-editor of the first book on Galileo satellite system (Springer “Galileo Positioning technology”), co-editor of a Springer book on “Multi-technology positioning”, and author or co-author in more than 250 international peer-reviewed publications. She is also an associate Editor for RIN Journal of Navigation and for IET Journal on Radar, Sonar, and Navigation. She is currently coordinating a MSCA European Joint Doctorate network with 17 international units in the field of wearable computing. Her expertise includes signal processing for wireless positioning, multipath and interference mitigation, and RF fingerprinting for spoofer detection.

Jussi Ryynänen is currently a full professor and the Head of the Department at the Dept. of Electronics and Nanoengineering. Ville Viikari is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of Department with the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering, Espoo, Finland. His current research interests include antennas for mobile communications, RF-powered devices, and antenna measurement techniques. He is an author in 140+ refereed articles and an inventor in 13 granted patents. He has received many awards including the Young Researcher Award of the Year 2014, presented by the Finnish Foundation for Technology Promotion, and IEEE Sensors Council 2010 Early Career Gold Award.
