About me

I am full professor in German language, culture and translation at the Languages Unit of the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences of Tampere University. I lead BA, MA and PhD studies in German linguistics and translation. I am director of Langnet, the Network of Doctoral Programmes in Language Sciences in Finland. I sit in the steering board for Plural (the multidisciplinary research centre for languages and cultures). I co-lead Tampere Accessibility Unit and the Multimodality in Translation and Interpreting research group.

About me

I am a Brazilian sign language interpreter. During my master’s and doctoral degrees, I had the opportunity to investigate aspects related to the professional training of Brazilian sign language interpreter and the inclusion of deaf students in the educational setting, with an emphasis on higher education.

Currently, in my post-doctorate, I am developing a project related to the educational inclusion of students with disabilities and neurodivergent conditions such as ASD and ADHD in elementary and higher education in the context of mathematics education from an inclusive and bilingual perspective-regarding deaf students who use sign language, reflecting on training of education professionals and educational inclusion practices based on the assumptions of special education and the principles of Universal Design for Learning, UDL.

About me

I am Professor of Sign language at the Sign Language Section of the Department of Linguistics at Stockholm University, Sweden. I have been active in initiating a variety of new directions in the study of deaf and deaf-blind communication. My research work focuses on sign language linguistics and the corpora in Swedish Sign Language, incl. the learner corpus and the tactile sign language corpus. I teach tactile sign language, sign language linguistics, deaf history and culture. I also supervise student theses at all levels.

About me

Dr. Petra Stemmer, MBA, is co-founder of NIICTE and member of its steering group. She is Research Associate at the Kuratorium Deutsche Altershilfe (KDA), Berlin, in cooperation with the Chair of Social Policy and Methods of Qualitative Social Research, University of Cologne.

Among other areas of competence, she is an expert on inclusion in higher education in Germany. She has been researching in this field since 2009 and has undertaken some empirical studies on the topic including one on studying with disabilities/impairments, studying with hearing impairment, and another one on studying with dyslexia.

She has also voluntarily led the working group „Giving people a voice“ (”Den Menschen eine Stimme geben”), where students and employees of University of Cologne describe studying or working with health impairments in a resource-oriented way.

About me

I work at the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation (FTI) at the University of Geneva since 2013. I am a legal and economic translator and a sign language interpreter by training. I hold a PhD in Multilingual Information Processing.

At the FTI, I am involved in the development of a Swiss Centre for Barrier-Free Communication. As part of this newly created centre, I currently coordinate the official inclusion of Swiss-French and Swiss-Italian sign languages in the Bachelor of Arts in Multilingual Communication. I also set up the first Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) for Deaf people who want to work as translators in French and Italian-speaking Switzerland. This program started in January 2022. For these two training projects, I received the Innovation Medal of the University of Geneva in 2021.

About me

I am member of the research groups TRALIMA/ITZULIK (GIU21/060, UPV/EHU), and GTiCH (Group for Teaching Innovation on Children´s Literature, Universidade de Vigo). Besides, I collaborate with the Project MINECO-TR3/CORALSE (Universidade de Vigo) on designing a corpus of Spanish sign language. My research interests focus on accessibility, audiovisual translation, and subtitling for deaf and hard of hearing audiences.

About me

I mainly do research in cognitive linguistics, with special focus on neurolinguistics and neuropragmatics. I also put emphasis on finding therapeutic solutions for individuals with acquired language disorders based on the results of my investigation into language acquisition and language deficits. Besides examining the reasons for communicative failures in individuals with typical and atypical language use, my research focuses on the characteristics of the intentional and unintentional use of linguistic signs.

About me

Blanca Arias-Badia is a member of the TraDiLex research group at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, an external collaborator of TransMedia Catalonia at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and the training coordinator of the AccessCat transfer network. She is the PI of a project on accessibility in higher education funded by the Spanish Government, as well as of two knowledge transfer projects about accessibility planning in the educational and cultural sectors, both funded by the Catalan Government.
