Kholova Ivana

Prof. Ivana Kholová, MD, PhD graduated from Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic in 1998 and gained her PhD in pathology from the same university in 2002.

Nowadays she works as a Full Professor of Pathology at Tampere University, Tampere, Finland and chief physician at Fimlab Laboratories located at Tampere University Hospital.

Her research interests include fine-needle aspiration biopsies of thyroid and salivary glands, cytology-histology correlations, pulmonary and effusion cytology, and HPV screening and gynecological cytology. In addition, she is involved in cardiovascular pathology projects.

Since 2015 she is a President of Finnish Society for Clinical Cytology. She works as a Scientific Committee Chair at European Federation of Cytological Societies Board, where she leads several projects.

She is a co-author of The Milan System for Reporting Salivary Gland Cytopathology and 3rd edition of The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology. She is an expert member of Executive Editorial Board of The WHO System for Reporting Cytopathology of Lung. Ivana has also joined The International System for Reporting Effusion Cytology.

Ivana co-authored Consensus statement on surgical pathology of the aorta from the Society for Cardiovascular Pathology and the Association for European Cardiovascular Pathology. She served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Association for Cardiovascular Pathology 2018-2025.

She is a Chair of Labquality Pathology working group. Ivana is also a member of Quality Working group of Finnish Cervical Cancer Screening Programme.

Prof. Kholová is Associate Editor at Cancer Cytopathology, a leading journal in cytopathology field.
