Professor of Radiology with a broad interest in imaging various molecular targets and conditions throughout the human body, using techniques such as positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Current research interests relate to advanced MRI techniques in head and neck radiology, emergency radiology, artificial intelligence, and neuropsychiatric brain imaging. As Professor, I am responsible for the radiology teaching curriculum for medical students and radiology residents. |
 Otso Arponen, MD, PhD, Principal Investigator
I am a resident physician and a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Radiology at Tampere University Hospital in Finland. I earned my Licentiate and Ph.D. degrees in Medicine from the University of Eastern Finland in 2017 and 2020, respectively. In June 2022, I will join the Department of Radiology at the University of Cambridge, UK, as a visiting researcher. My main research interests include clinical oncological imaging, the clinical applications of novel magnetic resonance imaging sequences, and the utilization radiological services. I am supervising 12 Ph.D. students and four M.D. thesis students. I am continually looking for my next travel destination and enjoy reading and going to the gym.
I am recruiting highly motivated medical thesis students for cancer-imaging projects. During the next few years, I will have suitable M.D. thesis projects aiming to evaluate the role of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-determined loss of muscle mass and its significance in various types of cancers. |
