Welcome to IDICE website!

The IDICE group studies social interaction – central research themes are how power, authority and injustice are produced, negotiated and challenged in the fine-grained details of social interaction.

Social realities shaped in interaction

Our research group on Interactional Disparity and Justice operates at Tampere University with a strong social psychological background.

We study how social realities are shaped in interaction. Our research examines how power, participation, authority, inequality and accountability emerge in the fine-grained details of everyday social interaction. Using interaction analytic and qualitative methods, we investigate communication in workplaces, institutions, mental health rehabilitation, neurodiversity, expert–lay encounters and civic engagement.

Our work shows how seemingly small moments of interaction such as proposals, silences, interventions and displays of expertise can shape participation, recognition and social order. By making visible the interactional dynamics of inclusion, exclusion and decision-making, our research contributes to more equal, reflective and socially sustainable forms of communication and collaboration.
