In April 2021, the Academy of Finland will open two FIRI funding applications. FIRI funding is the Academy’s main form of funding for the construction and development of national and international research infrastructures. The application period starts on 1 April and ends on 19 May 2021.
The FIRI funding application must be accompanied by a data management policy. The policy shall provide guidance to the personnel and customers of the research infrastructure on the production, storage and sharing of data. The data management policy should include a description of data, ethical aspects, access rights and licenses, data documentation and the production of metadata, the secure storage of data and the opening and sharing of data. The data produced by the research infrastructure must be in accordance with the FAIR principles.
In accordance with the FIRI funding application process of the University of Tampere, the Research Data Services provides targeted support for the development of data management policy. Research Data Services experts can be reached at researchdata@tuni.fi.
In 2020, the University of Tampere published a data management policy for open research infrastructures to support the writing of the FIRI data management policy. Its principles guide research infrastructures towards responsible openness. The aim of the data management policy is to support infrastructure funding applications and to guide research infrastructures to write their own research data management policies.
