Profiling areas in focus: New soft materials reduce microplastics and animal testing

The Sustainable Biomedical and Toxicological Research (SUSBIO) project aims to develop soft materials for biomedical and toxicological studies.

The project involves several research groups in the fields of medicine and health technology and technology at Tampere University. It is one of the four profiling areas at Tampere University funded under the PROFI 7 programme.

The main focus of the project is to explore specifically the potential of such soft materials, such as hydrogels and various plastics, their softness, size, or mechanical properties in different environmental conditions. Their ability to selfrepair and biodegradability are also of interest for future use in biomedical research. Several research groups from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology and the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Tampere University are participating in the project. The project is directed by Minna Kellomäki, Professor of Biomaterials,  and Chemistry Professor Arri Priimägi. Read more…
