Ankle-motion-related artifact in shank-mounted IMU posture measurements during gait
Shank-mounted inertial measurement units (IMUs) are attractive for portable gait analysis, but their posture estimates may be affected by attachment-related artifact associated with soft tissue and strap motion around the ankle. This study examined whether ankle joint motion contributes to this artifact in a distal shank-mounted configuration. Two independent gait datasets collected using different measurement and attachment configurations were analyzed. DS1 included 15 healthy young adults... -
ThrombUS+ Project: Toward Wearable Continuous Point-of-Care Monitoring for Deep Vein Thrombosis of the Lower Limb
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is characterized by the formation of blood clots in the deep veins, most commonly in the lower limbs, obstructing blood flow. In about 50% of cases, the clot dislodges and travels to the lungs, causing potentially fatal pulmonary embolism. Diagnosing DVT is challenging, as up to half of cases are asymptomatic. Early and accurate diagnosis is critical, but the current state of the art in ultrasound and plethysmography is insufficient for continuous,... -

Identification of Phospholipids Relevant to Cancer Tissue Using Differential Ion Mobility Spectrometry
Phospholipids are the main building components of cell membranes and are also used for cell signaling and as energy storages. Cancer cells alter their lipid metabolism, which ultimately leads to an increase in phospholipids in cancer tissue. Surgical energy instruments use electrical or vibrational energy to heat tissues, which causes intra- and extracellular water to expand rapidly and degrade cell structures, bursting the cells, which causes the formation of a tissue aerosol or smoke depending... -

INTRODUCTION: Brain tumors are a major source of disease burden in pediatric population, with the most common tumor types being pilocytic astrocytoma, ependymoma and medulloblastoma. In every tumor entity, surgery is the cornerstone of treatment, but the importance of gross-total resection and the corresponding patient prognosis is highly variant. However, real-time identification of pediatric CNS malignancies based on the histology of the frozen sections alone is especially troublesome. We... -
ECG signal quality in intermittent long-term dry electrode recordings with controlled motion artifacts
Wearable long-term monitoring applications are becoming more and more popular in both the consumer and the medical market. In wearable ECG monitoring, the data quality depends on the properties of the electrodes and on how they interface with the skin. Dry electrodes do not require any action from the user. They usually do not irritate the skin, and they provide sufficiently high-quality data for ECG monitoring purposes during low-intensity user activity. We investigated prospective motion... -
A novel method for accurate division of the gait cycle into seven phases using shank angular velocity

Method for the Intraoperative Detection of IDH Mutation in Gliomas with Differential Mobility Spectrometry
Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation status is an important factor for surgical decision-making: patients with IDH-mutated tumors are more likely to have a good long-term prognosis, and thus favor aggressive resection with more survival benefit to gain. Patients with IDH wild-type tumors have generally poorer prognosis and, therefore, conservative resection to avoid neurological deficit is favored. Current histopathological analysis with frozen sections is unable to identify IDH mutation... -
