TaRC is proud to announce its third international Master Class is ready to go!
This autumn’s Master Class, Health and Media (3/5 ECTS), follows in the footsteps of the previous editions, Media and the Arctic and Gender, Media, Leadership: Women in Chinese and Russian Media, by focusing on a topical theme from a multidisciplinary perspective.
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s course could not be more topical. On the course, we will delve into the topic by asking if the pandemic has boosted the digitalization of health and health care communication and influenced our perception of health and illness. How can information limit or intensify the corona virus outbreak?
Moreover, we will look at the role of media in shaping our understanding of health and illness on a more general level. We observe how perceptions of health and illness are changing in Chinese and Russian contexts of traditional and modern medicines, and how we understand health and illness in the age of social media.
As before, we have a great cast of internationally renowned teachers ready to offer their views to you. This year, however, the arrangements will differ from previous editions of the Master Class.
Due to the pandemic, the international teachers will be unable to come to Tampere, so the course will be held entirely online. Note too that we will not be able to have working-life participants either, so it will be a course for students only.
However, we are sure it will be a fine course! There will be weekly video lectures, movie screenings, group discussions, individual assignments and so on – all in all, a versatile set of tasks to help you learn effectively throughout the course.
The course will be available online 2 November – 31 December 2020. Enrolment is open until Monday 12 October for a maximum of 40 students from Tampere Universities and other HEIs.
If you are interested, please have a look at the course page for more information and guidelines on how to apply. Hope to see you on the course!
