Trans Care Network Finland
Trans Care Network Finland is a multidisciplinary network bringing together researchers, practitioners, and experts from the social sciences, health sciences, psychology, psychiatry, and medicine to promote evidence-based, person-centered care for trans and gender-diverse people in Finland.
Trans Care Network Finland
The network is built on two interconnected principles: informed consent as the foundation for clinical care, and self-determination as the broader human rights framework from which it follows. Informed consent means that trans and gender-diverse people are recognized as experts on their own lives, and that care relationships must be built on honest information sharing, and shared decision-making. Self-determination affirms the right of trans and gender-diverse people to define their own identities and life paths free from unnecessary institutional control.
We are concerned that the current research landscape in Finland has become imbalanced: certain framings of trans healthcare have received disproportionate weight, and the discussion is in need of broadening. Addressing this imbalance requires multidisciplinary collaboration. Our engagement is academic and constructive in nature. We do not engage in personalized criticism, but remain within evidence-based discussion.
