Eeva Ekqvist dissertation on clients’ wellbeing, hope and future expectations in inpatient substance abuse treatment

Eeva Ekqvist’s doctoral dissertation is a mixed methods study on clients’ wellbeing, hope and future expectations in inpatient substance abuse treatment. The focus of this study is on clients’ experiences and treatment efficacy during the treatment.

Data was collected from one inpatient substance abuse treatment unit located in Finland during the years 2016–2018. The treatment unit provides therapeutic community-based substance abuse treatment and/or gambling treatment for both individuals and families. The results of the study show that positive changes occur during inpatient treatment. While the change achieved will be tested after discharge, prospective follow-up study can answer questions such as how well-being and hope change after treatment. Ekqvist is a member in the TreAdd Research Group that studies addiction and treatment. The group is headed by Adjunct Professor Katja Kuusisto. The group will continue to answer these questions in their future research work.
