Radical Care for the City Week

How can we take better care of our cities, each other, our environment, and the planet?

The Radical Care for the City theme week on 27-31 October 2025 addresses the urgent need for more caring cities and sustainable transitions in urban environments. This week-long event will feature a series of conferences and other events aimed at exploring how cities can be nurtured and cherished amidst the urban and global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, democracy crisis, marginalizing social processes, and more.

The week kicks off with the Architectural Research Symposium (ATUT) on 27-28 October, focusing on resilience in the built environment through a radical care approach. In the middle of the week there is an Open Day on 29 October, which includes a PhD seminar, an open lecture, and excursions, providing a mid-week pause for reflection, learning and networking. The event culminates with the Re-City Conference on 30-31 October, where discussions will center on urban transformation, social sustainability, justice, and democracy.

Together, these events aim to broaden the understanding of urban care, emphasizing the importance of empathy and collective responsibility over profit and continuous growth.

Radical Care for the City encompasses the caring relationships between humans, non-humans, and urban spaces. By fostering a radical culture of care, the event aspires to transform cities into enablers and sources of caring actions, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and just world.
