Urban Picnic in Sorsapuisto (30 May)

Urban Picnic in Sorsapuisto

TURNS & STUE invite our urban research community, colleagues, and collaborators to celebrate the beginning of summer with an informal picnic in the Sorsapuisto park. During the event, we will hear short speeches from researchers studying urban public spaces and parks.

  • Time: Thursday 30 May at 15-17 (you can arrive at any time)
  • Venue: Sorsapuisto park, on the eastside of the pond (somewhere by the pink tick, see the image above)

TURNS offers basic snacks and refreshments, but you can also bring your own snacks for yourself or to be shared with others. Please bring your own picnic blanket. Children are also welcome!

If you would like to present your own research, you can book a 10 minutes slot by using this form or just give a spontaneous speech on our Speaker’s Corner during the event. We will publish the names and titles of the pre-registered speakers on this website as we receive registrations.

Confirmed speakers (to be updated)

  • Antti Wallin: Wonderful, Horrible, Life: Skateboarding and the Social Dynamics of an Urban Plaza
  • Riina Lundman: Protestivals and the Freedom to Assembly
  • Annuska Rantanen (tentative): Ideas for the URBAN COMPOST-research collective

In case of bad weather, we have reserved also the bottom floor lobby of the Linna building for our use (Kalevantie 5 / Pinninkatu 78 entrance). Information about the possible change of the venue indoors will be announced on this website on the morning of 30 May.

 Welcome!
