Collaboration with stakeholders…

Living labs are open innovation platforms that include the involvement of authorities, companies, re-searchers and users. In living labs, new products, services, processes and systems are tested with the focus on strengthening the sustainable urbanization efforts in specific areas within cities. Proactive networking among the actors is a key success factor in a living lab, which is due to the need of utilizing stakeholders for knowledge and resource sharing and awareness creation. A living lab can lead to accelerated and new way of urban planning due to the implementation of novel processes.

The platform is utilizing Hiedanranta city district in Tampere as a living lab. The activities in Hiedanranta include solving together with City of Tampere the possibilities to utilize the local high-volume mass zero fiber, developing technologies to enhance energy and nutrient recovery from source-separated municipal wastewater and biowaste, …

The platform does collaboration with ECO3 business area that develops bio and circular economy businesses and innovations on an industrial scale. The platform has, for example, worked together with the local waste and wastewater actors by testing new pilot-scale technologies as part of municipal wastewater treatment and determined how the novel technologies affect the potentials to recovery energy and nutrient from municipal wastewaters as well as biowaste.
