KITE workshop on November 12th, 2020: Smart Mobility Explained

Smart Mobility

See the latest on AI as used in Smart Mobility, from an HCI and ethics point of view. Talk about these issues with companies and researchers.

About this Event

Welcome coders, designers, managers, researchers, and everyone who is interested in or working on urban mobility, AI, transparency, explanation, human-computer interaction, ethics

Welcome to an AI-centric online workshop talking about Smart Mobility. We take a look at how AI changes urban mobility, how that is seen by the people using the services, and what ethical issues might arise.

Smart mobility brings together many urban systems, such as infrastructure (roads, tracks, networks), vehicles (cars, buses, trains), services (routing, ticketing, informing), and others. AI can deliver improvements to all these constructs – but are they good for us? How to make the systems really useful and usable for people?

Now that AI systems enter public use, questions arise: How can we offer automated systems that give people useful services and advice, without overwhelming them with machine-generated details? How can people trust advice from machines? Should they? How can users understand the workings of the services affecting their daily lives?

KITE research project in Tampere University studies these issues from a human point of view. We apply technology, ethics, and user-centric design to improve AI systems’ usability for people. We discuss these issues in a series of workshops, here in the domain of smart mobility.

This online workshop brings together companies, researchers and city officials to discuss the issues above. The interactive workshop will feature selected talks, online feedback and questions, and group work.
