Master’s Degree Programme in Public and Global Health (PGH)
The objective of the master’s programme is to equip students with skills to analyze and advocate for health and social determinants at local, national, and global levels by using interdisciplinary approaches. Graduates will understand multidisciplinary public health principles, addressing challenges like equity and sustainability, and applying key methods in health promotion, policy, and systems. They will evaluate the impact of global actors and transnational issues—such as planetary boundaries—on health policies and programs. Additionally, students will gain skills to design and conduct scientific research by using qualitative and quantitative methods, while critically assessing health information and evidence to inform decision-making.
International Doctoral Programme in Epidemiology and Public Health (IPPE)
The IPPE research training program increases knowledge and understanding of major public health problems and challenges, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, It builds and strengthens sustainable public health capacity through global collaborative networks. The Program prepares epidemiologists and public health professionals for leadership roles in research, program planning and policy development. Selected PhD candidates complete one year of coursework at Tampere University followed by field research, data analysis and reporting over the next three to four years. The dissertation requires at least three peer-reviewed publications and a synthesis thesis, culminating in a PhD in epidemiology or a related public health discipline after a successful defense.
