The CNESS Lecture Series The Energy Transition: Beyond Technical Change to Socio-technical Transformation [hybrid], will begin on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Every Tuesday from 16:00 to 18:00, the series will host different speakers covering various topics of the Energy Transition.

CNESS will launch a new multidisciplinary lecture series on September 30, 2025, titled The Energy Transition: Beyond Technical Change to Socio-technical Transformation. The program highlights how the global shift away from fossil fuels requires not just technological innovation but also deep social, political, and economic change.

Organised by TAU’s research platform CNESS, the series features experts across politics, engineering, business, social sciences, and environmental studies. Over the autumn semester, lectures will cover critical themes such as renewable energy infrastructures, policy frameworks, sector integration, sustainable construction, social transitions, and green business models.

Speakers include PhD Sarah Kilpeläinen, Prof. Sami Repo, Prof. Pekka Abrahamsson, Prof. Emeritus Pertti Alasuutari, and others who will provide perspectives ranging from climate-neutral systems to AI in energy, battery ecosystem development, and electric vehicle adoption.

The series is open to students from various disciplines, with participants able to earn 5 ECTS credits by attending lectures and submitting analytical essays. By integrating technical, social, and policy dimensions, the initiative aims to equip students with the systems thinking and interdisciplinary skills necessary for advancing just and sustainable energy futures.

The opening session takes place on September 30, 16:00–18:00, at Päätalo D13, City Centre Campus.
