Ville Kumpu appointed as the new post-doc for the CNESS flagship "EV and Social Change"

CNESS flagship “Electric Vehicles and Social Change”, under the project leader Pertti Alasuutaari, has appointed Villu Kumpu as the new postdoctoral researcher. Ville, who received a doctoral degree in journalism at Tampere University, has researched environmental and climate journalism at the University of Helsinki during the last few years. His research is motivated by a curiosity about what the proliferation of climate change communication means from a social-theoretical perspective.  As a result, the project description and Pertti Alasuutari’s involvement sparked his interest in applying for the position.
“I took serious interest as I noticed that Pertti Alasuutari was involved.”
Ville’s fixed-term position began on April 8, 2024, and will conclude on June 30, 2025. In the coming months, he looks forward to developing the initial research plan and expanding the project with collaborators. Alongside his work on the project, Ville is also writing a book on the environmental history of a small Finnish pulp mill.
The project “Electric Vehicles and Social Change” aims to explore the trajectory of road transport electrification and its broader societal impacts. Supported by seed funding from the research platform CNESS, the project plans to expand its reach by engaging collaborators and securing additional external funding.
