The 60th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS) will take place at Hilton Waikoloa Village, Big Island on January 5-8, 2027. According to Microsoft Academic in 2021, in terms of citations, HICSS has ranked first among information systems as well as business conferences. HICSS is also considered one of the most important conferences in the overall field of systems and systems in different international rankings.
The Research Centre of Gameful Realities is (co-)charing two (2) minitracks in this year’s HICSS.
Gamification minitrack, encouraging a wide range of submissions from any disciplinary backgrounds (e.g., empirical and conceptual research papers, case studies, and reviews) related to gamification, including (but not limited to) users, education, media, commerce, work, technology, toys & playfulness, health, cities, theories, concepts and methods from such as positive, negative, speculative, cultural, historical, ethical perspectives.
Game-based Learning minitrack, encouraging submissions from any disciplinary background reporting different kinds of studies (e.g., empirical studies, case studies, methods and techniques, conceptual frameworks, and literature reviews). Covering related to neighboring concepts such as educational games, serious games, gamified learning, single and multiplayer games for learning, simulation, and training games, gameful design, etc.
High quality and relevant papers from this minitrack will be selected for fast-tracked development towards Internet Research and Smart Learning Environments. Selected papers will need to expand in content and length in line with the requirements for standard research articles published in the journal. Although the minitrack co-chairs are committed to guiding the selected papers towards final publication, further reviews may be needed before a final publication decision can be made.

August 17, 11:59pm HST| Decision Notification: Authors will be notified of acceptance/rejection.
September 4, 11:59pm HST | Resubmission Deadline for Conditionally Accepted Papers: Authors whose papers are conditionally accepted shall submit a revised manuscript.
September 22, 11:59pm HST | Deadline for the Submission of Final Manuscript: Authors will submit the final version of their manuscript for publication.
October 1, 11:59pm HST |Author Registration Deadline: At least one author of each paper must register by October 1. Papers without a registered author will not be scheduled for presentation at the conference and included in the conference proceedings.
