Community Projects & Training

Global Health and Development (GHD) engages in a variety of community level projects in the context of global well-being. Additionally, the Master’s Degree Programme in Public and Global involves a work placement for 1-3 months for the students to gain and apply knowledge and skills in diverse settings.

Our recent projects include an evaluation of community based health programme in Mongolia, in Ulaanbaatar. For the selected students, the project between the Mongolian Red Cross and Finnish Red Cross provided an interesting opportunity to receive training in a real-world case-project.

We collaborate with the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) & OECD EU Social Protection Systems programme. It works with stakeholders of eleven partner countries facilitating social protection system reforms prioritised by the partner Governments. The Programme provides unique opportunities to joint research with case countries and opens prospects to study (internship possibilities) diverse institutional settings for systems development and wellbeing. We have started the collaboration with joint expert missions in Zambia, Tanzania and Namibia.

Additionally, Dr. Mikko Perkiö has been engaging in Global Social Work Association, which is active in organizing internships and intensive courses for social work master students in Mozambique and Tanzania.
