International Perspectives on Educational Discourses, Policies and Practices
The research group consists of interconnected studies which investigate the discursive formation of educational policies on international and local arenas and the intended and unintended effects of policies on educational practice. Geographically our research focuses on Russia and a number of developing countries (currently Ethiopia, Cambodia and Sierra Leone, previously also Afghanistan and Tanzania). The flagship of the research group is the Russia sub-project in the research consortium Trans-national Dynamics of Quality Assurance Policies and Evaluation in Brazil, China and Russia

Asia Business Academy –concept
Vision: Asia Business Academy is an international center for Asia related activities on business, technology and society issues at the University of Tampere.
The objectives of this center are: Develop i) an umbrella RDI organisation for studies on Asia Business, Technology and Society issues, ii) program management of research relevant to Finnish business and industry, iii) based on RDI efforts offer courses, seminars and conferences on Asia related competencies, and iv) Collaborate with Asia oriented research, development and innovation oriented organisations globally.

Global Health Group at the Tampere Center for Child Health Research
We aim at improved understanding of the causes, development, consequences prevention and management of selected globally important health problems, especially among children and pregnant women. Our current research is mostly focused on maternal and child health, with special emphasis on three interrelated conditions: maternal and child malaria and other infections, preterm birth, and childhood malnutrition.

The Higher Education Group (HEG)
The Higher Education Group (HEG) is a unit focusing on higher education research and teaching at the University of Tampere, School of Management. HEG provide research and consultancy services to higher education sector and stakeholders. HEG has extensive teaching experience and expertise in programmes that provide continuing education for Higher Education administrators through its KOHA programmes. HEG also coordinates Finnish Master’s programme on HE management, and modules taught at University of Tampere from the European Commission-funded Master of Research and Innovation in Higher Education (MARIHE ERASMUS) coordinated in partnership with Danube University, Krems (Austria), University of Applied Sciences Osnabruck (Germany) and Beijing Normal University (China).
Moreover, HEG has strong experience of international collaboration. In general, HEG has participated in many projects and programmes enhancing the responsive capacity of higher education institutions in national and international development engagements and innovation programmes for example in Sub-Saharan Africa and China. In Particular, HEG has been active in developing various capacity development projects in Uganda, South Africa and Cameroon over the past few years. For instance, through the funding found from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, HEG has developed and implemented two successful major institutional capacity development projects in Uganda that focus on Building Institutional Capacity Training Leadership and Management of Ugandan Universities (LMUU) 2011-2012, and Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Higher Education Leadership and Management in sub-Saharan Africa (LMUU II) 2013-2015, and currently applied for similar project in Ethiopia that focuses on developing the Institutional Capacity of Ethiopian Universities in Higher Education Leadership and Management (LMEU), 2017-2019.
